2017 Roots Blues Workshop Faculty
May 30-June 1, 2017
Roy Book Binder, Director
Roy has the goods: the original, the bare-knuckle, the low-down . . . blues. Who can say they were friends with the Rev. Gary Davis, Pink Anderson and Robert Lockwood? And toured with Arthur Big Boy Crudup, Hot Tuna, JJ Cale & Bonnie Raitt ? Roy can. He has the stories, the licks, and the mystery of timeless music in his fingers. He’s been featured on a PBS special and interviewed by Terry Gross on “Fresh Air.” He’s also a regular at Fur Peace Ranch, where he teaches along with Jorma Kaukonen. When he brings his 'Tour Bus' to town, a one-man blues-fest ensues.
Rev. Robert B. Jones (Detroit, MI)
Robert has more than 30 years of experience as a school and classroom presenter. In 2007 Robert received the prestigious "Keeping The Blues Alive Award" from the national Blues Foundation for his work in schools, and he has been recognized by organizations such as the Wayne County Council for Arts, History and Humanities and the Monroe County Library System for his work in schools. Regardless of age, and whether working in a single classroom or with hundreds of students in an assembly setting, Robert's message is always the same, we need to celebrate the creativity and diversity of our shared culture. Our stories and our music have much to teach us about who we are, where we have come from, and where we are going.
Suzie Vinnick (Wainfleet, ONT)
Suzie Vinnick, 10X Maple Blues Award winner, 3X Juno Nominee was a Finalist in the 2013 International Blues Challenge Solo/Duo Category in Memphis, TN. She was the winner of the 2012 CBC Saturday Night Blues Great Canadian Blues Award and the 2012 SIRIUS/XM Blues Artist of the Year has released a new album entitled Live At Bluesville, a collection of roots, blues and gospel tunes featuring Suzie and her parlour guitar, Mabel.
