WHAT IS THE

KERRVILLE FOLK FESTIVAL FOUNDATION?

The Kerrville Folk Festival was founded by the late Rod Kennedy in 1972 and continued under his direction for 28 years. Over the course of those years, a powerful community bond had formed among Festival attendees. They could not imagine losing the gathering of their “chosen family.” Ultimately, a member-based non-profit, 501(c)(3) incorporation was formed. Joining the Kerrville Folk Festival Foundation declares you are part of this on-going community, and your willingness to assure its continuance by giving it your financial support.

The Kerrville Folk Festival is the flagship event of the KFF Foundation.  In 2023, the 50th Kerrville Folk Festival was celebrated by a community committed to supporting its continuance for generations to come.  During the Festival, we become the second largest community in Kerr County.  Activities are provided for all ages with a focus on nurturing and developing artistic expression, especially the art of songwriting, in a loving family-friendly environment.  The Foundation events are produced by a small paid staff and a host of dedicated hard-working volunteers from across the country.  The KFF Foundation Board of Directors is a voluntary working board.

Our mission is to promote public appreciation and support for songwriters, the songwriting craft, and the gift folk music offers the world.

Our vision is of an inclusive community where the craft of songwriting is shared, respected, and supported. We celebrate and honor powerful and insightful songs across the spectrums of genre, race, gender identity, culture, or religion.  We value music from all folks that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Our purpose is to educate the public about the benefits and characteristics of songs, that in time, are deemed “folk music”. We provide a unique experience in a musical community that is enriching to the listeners and the performers.

Structure

MEMBERSHIP STRUCTURE

In October 2020, the KFF Foundation Members voted to amend the Foundation bylaws such that Memberships are now structured on a full calendar year. Now annual memberships last one full calendar year, so the date you join or renew is now your membership anniversary date.

Also passed in October was an amendment that allows for annual membership dues to be paid on a monthly basis through an automated online system. Automatic monthly billing now allows you to opt for dues to be paid in a monthly "subscription" to your annual membership. Monthly subscriptions are available at any level of membership. Because there are additional credit card and processing fees associated with multiple payments, there is a small fee added to each monthly payment to cover those costs.

To be eligible to vote, a member’s dues must be paid in full, or for members making monthly payments, the member must have paid at least 3 consecutive monthly payments and be current on payments at least 24 hours prior to the date of a membership vote.

Similarly, at all levels of membership, you may now opt for automatic renewal of a single annual payment as an annual "subscription" to your membership.  If you opt for an annual subscription, you will be automatically billed once a year on your membership anniversary date for your annual membership dues.

If you are on any automatic billing "subscription" plan (annual or monthly) and wish to change your level of membership, please call the KFF Office for assistance.

Your annual membership is active for one full calendar year from the date your dues were processed. Although bylaw amendments allow for a full year of membership, they cannot apply retroactively; as in, the bylaws in effect at the time a person joins or renews apply to that person's membership for one calendar year. If you have any questions regarding membership, please call or email the festival office for clarification.
